Criticism of the German theatrical version

Regarding the German, 92-minute long version of the 320-minute long original, RE said in the film service : “... in the end, the anger over the lovelessness and bungling of the German version dominates. With this bland patchwork [...] you shouldn't lure children or adults to the cinema. " The lexicon of international films also judged as follows: "The mutilated German version of the beautiful television film gives little indication of the poetry and tension of the original."
