The Ukliva stream ( Telestes ukliva ) is a species of fish from the carp family . It was described as Leuciscus ukliva by Johann Jakob Heckel in 1843 and placed in the genus Telestes in 1998 . It was believed to be extinct between 1988 and 1997 .

features

The Ukliva stream reaches a standard length of 100 mm and a maximum length of 250 mm. The head is small and fat. The tip of the snout is rounded or blunt. The nose is curved and protrudes from the tip of the upper lip. There are 58 to 66 scales on the lateral line organ . A conspicuous black band can be seen above the lateral line organ. The back color is black-green. The flanks are yellowish and the belly is dark brown in color. The fins are tinted orange at the base. There are ten to eleven dorsal rays and ten to twelve anal rays. The number of gill traps is six to eight.

Occurrence

The Ukliva Stream is endemic to the Cetina River in Croatia , a slowly flowing body of water in the Croatian Karst Mountains.

Nothing is known about the way of life of the Ukliva stream.

status

The Ukliva stream was classified by the IUCN in the category "extinct" in 2006, after it was last detected in 1988. After a review of specimens that had previously been mistakenly identified as Telestes muticellus , the species was rediscovered in 1997. Danger is posed by water pollution, habitat destruction and competition with non-faunal fish species.
