The Ukrainian Crisis Media Center ( Ukrainian Український кризовий медіа-центр , English Ukraine Crisis Media Center - UCMC ) is a social organization that provides information about events in Ukraine as well as challenges and threats to the national security of the country, especially in the military , Politics, economy, energy and humanitarian issues. The UCMC supports media representatives reporting on events in Ukraine.

history

The UCMC was established in March 2014 by leading Ukrainian experts in international relations, communication and public relations to help Ukraine gain a voice in the global dialogue on the events related to the annexation of Crimea by Russia .

financing

The UCMC is a social project. It is financially supported by the US Embassy in Kiev (Public Relations Department), the International Renaissance Foundation; National Endowment for Democracy (USA); Ukrainian World Foundation (Canada); European Democracy Fund (EU); Matra (program of the Embassy of the Netherlands ); Internews; Mondelez International and others.

Areas

Press center

The UCMC press center offers social activists, experts, politicians and representatives of state power the opportunity to inform the public about events and developments in Ukraine within the scope of its work as stipulated by the statute. During the two years of the press center's existence, more than 2500 press conferences were held, attended by more than 6000 speakers.

Department for foreign target groups

The department for foreign target groups aims to disseminate objective information about Ukraine abroad and to ensure that the Ukrainian question is present in the Western discourse. The department supports foreign journalists reporting on the events in Ukraine. The department also prepares and disseminates its own analyzes and translates the UCMC's most important press releases into English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. The department's staff work with Western academic and political circles to develop positive attitudes towards Ukraine. They organize press trips to Ukraine for foreign journalists, they ensure the participation of representatives of Ukraine in conferences abroad and inform foreign target groups about the `in Ukraine on multilingual pages in social networks.

Domestic Audience Department

The department's task is to support information work in the regions of Ukraine and to integrate the eastern and southern regions of the country into the overall Ukrainian information context. Meetings are organized with regional journalists, representatives of NGOs and local authorities, activists and volunteers, experts and multipliers in order to determine what requirements exist in the regions, and to define topics for joint work and to solve tasks in specific regions in the aforementioned area .

  • The newspaper "Peace in Donbass" was founded by the UCMC with the support of the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany as a free newsletter with the latest information for the residents of the front lines in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
  • The pilot project “Spokesman for Peaceful Life” aims to organize communication via Skype with every settlement in the Ukrainian-controlled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions .

The UCMC and the arts

The main reason why the UCMC started dealing with art was the desire to focus on peaceful, cultural events when reporting on life in Ukraine. The art department of the UCMC supports the organization and reporting of Ukrainian cultural projects. The UCMC implements initiatives as part of the “media lounge”. It develops its own projects and implements them.

“Cultural diplomacy between the regions of Ukraine” is a program of the UCMC, which aims to contribute to building a dialogue and reconciliation between the people in East and West Ukraine through modern art. The following projects were implemented: an exhibition and the series of workshops “Buntes Papier” by Lilija Tjeptjajewa; the media presentation “il Caprese”: letters from Kozjubynskyj from Capri; the art project “The Wall”: Lew Skop and the creative association “Kaktus”; the culture and art residence “Above God” - the role of culture in decommunization; the “Where” workshop: updating public spaces and establishing communication between the public and local authorities; the photo exhibition “Aeroport” by Sergei Lojko and others.

The Ukrainian Media Center for Reforms

This is a UCMC project that was created in July 2014 with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation. It is intended to serve as a platform for a dialogue between the authorities, expert groups and the public. The aim is to develop a common position on the strategies and directions of the reforms. The Ukrainian Media Center for Reforms also serves to promote reforms and publicize them through all possible media products. It also organizes events that serve to raise public awareness of the reforms.

The main activities of the Ukrainian Media Center for Reforms

  • Interaction with experts and social activists
  • Cooperation with the central organs of the executive and their press offices
  • Conducting expert meetings, public discussions and round table discussions on strategies and the implementation of reforms
  • Creation of information material for the media and the Internet
  • Maintaining contacts with the media
  • Organization of events for media representatives in Kiev and in the regions of the country
  • Explanation of the progress of the reforms for media representatives, also with expert comments
  • Popularization of the reforms in social networks
  • Monitoring and analysis of reporting on reforms in the media and social networks
  • Support for special projects highlighting the progress of reforms in the media

"Communication of the energy reform"

This is a separate project from the Ukrainian Media Center for Reforms, which was supported by the Swedish Foreign Ministry in 2015. Its aim is to explain the reforms in the energy sector and to involve society in public debates with representatives of state power.

Public communications reform

This is a UCMC project that aims to achieve sustainable, systematic and effective communication between the authorities through the coordination and synchronization of information as well as strategic planning and analysis. The project is financially supported by the US embassy in Ukraine.
