Rudolf Halter

Rudolf Halter (born September 11, 1860 in Vienna ; † September 27, 1938 there ) was an Austrian hydraulic engineer and university lecturer . He was rector of the Vienna University of Technology .

Life

Rudolf Halter studied civil engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, where he passed the second state examination in 1885. From 1887 to 1895 he worked as an engineer for the state of Lower Austria , initially working on the layout of railway lines, later in the hydraulic engineering sector. In 1896 he was responsible for the regulation of the March in the Imperial and Royal Ministry of the Interior . From 1897 to 1909 he was department head of the Lower Austrian Danube Regulation Commission, in this role he was responsible for securing the Hubertusdamm line Bisamberg – Floridsdorf during the floods in 1897 . In addition, the protective and winter harbor in Freudenau , the Kuchelau harbor and the Kaiserbad barrage were built under his leadership .

From 1909 until his retirement in 1929 he was a full professor for hydraulic engineering at the TH Vienna. In the academic years 1912/13 to 1915/16 he was dean of the engineering school, in the academic year 1923/24 he was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology . In 1919 he initiated the Free Association for Technical National Education together with Wilhelm Exner , of which he was president from 1921 to 1933.

Rudolf Halter died in 1938 at the age of 73 and was buried at the Hütteldorfer Friedhof .
