Ulf Thorsell

Ulf Thorsell (born March 18, 1956 ) is a Swedish table tennis player with his active time in the 1970s. He took part in four world championships and at least four European championships and won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the team competitions.

Career

Ulf Thorsell is left-handed. He achieved his first international successes at the European Youth Championships. Here he won singles and doubles with Christer Hafn in 1972 and 1973. With Ann-Christin Hellman he came to the mixed final in 1972 and 1973, which was lost to Desmond Douglas / Linda Howard from England .

From 1973 to 1981 he took part in four world championships . He was third in the team competition in 1975 and 1977 . Also with the team, he was European champion in 1980 and runner-up in 1976 . He was represented four times at the European ranking tournament TOP12 , where he did best in 1980 in Munich with second place behind his compatriot Stellan Bengtsson .

1979 Ulf Thorsell joined the German Bundesliga club SSV Heinzelmann Reutlingen . With the men's team, he was in 1980 and 1981 German Cup, in 1980 won the European Fairs Cup and won in the 1981/82 European Champion Clubs' Cup . In 1982 he played for the Stuttgarter Kickers, in 1983 he moved to TTC Frickenhausen , which he helped promote to the Bundesliga in 1984.

In the ITTF world rankings , Ulf Thorsell was ranked 13th to 16th in early 1977.
