Ulfert Herlyn (born January 19, 1936 in Göttingen ) is a German urban sociologist and university professor .

Live and act

From 1957 Ulfert Herlyn studied sociology at the Universities of Göttingen , Cologne with René König and Berlin ; Graduated from the Free University of Berlin with a degree in sociology in 1962. From 1963 to 1973 he was a research assistant and academic advisor at the Sociological Seminar of the University of Göttingen with Hans Paul Bahrdt . He did his doctorate in 1969 under Bahrdt; 1973 Habilitation at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen in the subject of sociology, in particular urban and regional sociology as well as empirical social research.

From 1974 professor for planning-related sociology at the University of Hanover at the Institute for planning-related sociology and open space planning (IFPS); retired since 2000. During this time, numerous empirical research projects on problems in urban and housing research, for example on housing conditions, urban redevelopment, infrastructure problems, segregation or new cities. The city of Wolfsburg was an important research subject in Herlyn.

From 1979 to 1982 chairman of the urban and regional sociology section. Herlyn received an offer to succeed Erika Spiegel at the University of Dortmund in the early 1980s , but stayed in Hanover.
