Uliastai ( Mongolian Улиастай ) is the capital of the Mongolian province of Dzawchan in the western part of the country, around 1115 km from the capital Ulaanbaatar . With 24,276 inhabitants in 2000, the city was one of the ten largest in the country. In 2005 the population was only 15,742.

Uliastai has an old and a new airport. The old airport has two unpaved runways and was replaced by a new one 30 km west of the city in 2002. This airport is called Donoi and is also included in national flight plans. Regular flight connections to Ulan Bator are maintained from here. At the moment (April 2007) there are flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays, mostly on Saturdays with a stopover in Tosontsengel .
