Ulick Burke, 1st Marquess of Clanricarde (* 1604 in London , † July 1657 in Kent ) was an English nobleman and general.

Ulick Burke was the son of Richard Burke, 4th Earl of Clanricarde and Frances Walsingham . In 1622 he married Anne Campten, daughter of William Compton, 1st Earl of Northampton and Elizabeth Spencer. It was Burke's only wedding. The daughter Margaret Bourgh came from this marriage. After his father's death in 1636, he inherited his title of nobility and the family seat of Somerhill House .

During the English Civil War , Burke was a supporter of Charles I and was thus at odds with Oliver Cromwell . This conflict led to the seizure of Somerhill House by Parliament in 1645. He fought alongside James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde in the years of the Irish Confederation Wars, and was in command of the victorious royalist troops at the Battle of Tecroghan . In 1646 he was awarded the Irish title of Marquess of Clanricarde .

In the Battle of Meelick Island , however, his troops were defeated and Burke, like many other military leaders, had to make peace with Oliver Cromwell; in 1652 he lost all his titles and possessions. Ten years later, after the re-establishment of the monarchy, he received titles and lands back and was fully rehabilitated.
