Ulrich Eisel

Ulrich Eisel (born September 13, 1941 in Wiesbaden ) is a geographer and critical social theorist .

biography

After completing his apprenticeship as a cartographer , he completed an engineering degree in cartography and worked as an engineering graduate at Eduard Imhof in Erlenbach, at the ETH Zurich and at Orell Füssli in Zurich. In 1967 he completed his studies in geography, sociology , cartography and political science at the Free University of Berlin , made scientific contacts with Gerhard Hard , among others , with whom he later obtained his doctorate, and was involved in the publication of the journal Geografiker . From 1974 until his doctorate in geography (1979) he was a research assistant at the Institute for Anthropogeography at the Free University of Berlin. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Geography at the University of Osnabrück , where he completed his habilitation in political science. In 1985 he was appointed professor at the Technical University of Berlin, Department of Landscape Development (later Environment and Society ), where he headed the department of social science human ecology (later the cultural history of nature ) until his retirement in 2000 .

Among the German geographers, Eisel belongs to the method-critical geographers. B. also belong Gerhard Hard , Dietrich Bartels , Benno Werlen and Hans-Dietrich Schultz. Eisel's work was initially focused on critical geography . Eisel later devoted his publications to the theory of science, the history of paradigms in landscape planning and the cultural history of nature, and later the history of ideas in nature conservation, sustainable landscape development and aesthetics. He looks at the specialist politics of landscape and spatial planning from a philosophical and socially critical perspective.
