Ulrich Höfer

Ulrich Höfer (born July 7, 1957 in Zusmarshausen ) is a German physicist . Höfer received his doctorate in 1989 and completed his habilitation in 1996 at the Technical University of Munich with his thesis "Nonlinear optical spectroscopy on silicon surfaces". He teaches at the Philipps University in Marburg. Höfer is coordinator of the Collaborative Research Center 1083 “Structure and Dynamics of Internal Interfaces” with over 60 chemists and physicists in cooperation with the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) in San Sebastián .

Life

Ulrich Höfer is a physicist and completed his studies and doctorate at the Technical University of Munich . He received his doctorate in 1989 on "High-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy on surfaces". With the thesis “Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy on Silicon Surfaces” he also completed his habilitation in 1996 at the Technical University of Munich. In 1987 he became a research assistant. After a two-year postdoc at IBM in New York and other research and visiting professorships in Munich, Vienna and Japan, Höfer became Professor of Experimental Physics at the Philipps University of Marburg.

Awards

His awards include: Arnold Sommerfeld Prize of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (1995), Fellow of the American Physical Society (2006) and Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2015).

Research interests

His scientific interests include experimental surface physics, laser spectroscopy of surfaces and interfaces, time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, dynamics of electron transfer processes at surfaces and interfaces, in particular ultra-fast and coherent phenomena, simple chemical reactions on surfaces, in particular dynamics of surface diffusion and adsorption on semiconductor surfaces.
