Ulrich I. von Rechberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich I. von Rechberg is considered to be the progenitor of the Hohenstaufen dynasty of the Lords von Rechberg and appears - for sure - in the documents between 1179 and 1200. His first marriage was to Adelheid ( Adilheidis ) von Biberbach and his second marriage to Perchterad ( Perhcteradis ) von Ravensburg from the family of Reichsmarschalls von Pappenheim . On January 22nd, 1179 he was named as Ulricus de Rehperc among the witnesses in a privilege issued by Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa for the Rot Kloster It is possible that Ulrich von Rechberg is also identical with an "Ulrich von Staufen" (1172) and can even be traced back to the year 1165. Ulrich is listed again in an imperial document among the witnesses in 1181, expressly designated as castellan of Hohenstaufen Castle in 1189 and for the first time as Marshal of the Duchy of Swabia in 1194. In 1200 he was recorded in this capacity for the last time in the entourage of the Staufer Philipp von Schwaben , who was both German King and Duke of Swabia . The last years of his life are controversial. While some historians suspect that he must have died between April and November 1200, others assume that he lived until 1205/1206. Ulrich's son was Hildebrand , who was first mentioned in November 1200 as the successor to his father in the office of Marshal of the Duchy of Swabia and who held this office until his death in 1226.
