Ulrich Irmer

Ulrich Irmer (born January 19, 1939 in Bochum ) is a German politician of the FDP .

Irmer first studied philosophy , theology, literature, history, and political science in Tübingen , Hamburg and Bonn . He then completed a law degree with two state exams in Munich . After completing his studies, Irmer was initially assistant to the management of the German headquarters of a Swiss insurance company and, since 1973, a member of a Munich law firm and auditing firm.

In Tübingen he was a member of the Tübingen student association “ Akademische Gesellschaft Stuttgardia ”, which shaped southern German liberalism .

Ulrich Irmer joined the FDP in 1961, of which he was a member of the federal executive committee from 1984–1986, 1988–1990 and 1993–1995. At the federal representative assembly of the FDP for the first direct election of the European Parliament, he was elected to fourth place on the federal list on February 3, 1979 . From 1979 to 1984 he was a member of the European Parliament and from 1987 to 2002 a member of the German Bundestag and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . He always entered the Bundestag via the FDP Bavarian State List and for many years was the foreign policy spokesman and chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag in the Foreign Affairs Committee .
