Ulrich Langer (born August 17, 1952 in Marienberg ) is a German mathematician. He is Professor of Numerical Mathematics at Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz and heads the Institute for Numerical Mathematics.

Life

After studying in Chemnitz , Germany, Ulrich Langer did his doctorate in St. Petersburg , Russia . In 1993 he took over the chair for numerical mathematics at the JKU and headed the institute of the same name. At the same time, he is deputy director of the Johann Radon Institute for Numerical and Applied Mathematics (RICAM) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . From 1998 to 2003 he was spokesman for the special research area SFB F013 "Numerical and Symbolic Scientific Computing". He is a member of various editorial boards of international trade journals as well as committees of the ESF and the ERC. Since 2003, Prof. Langer has been a member of the board of trustees of the Austrian Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF) as a consultant for applied mathematics .
