Ulrich Meczulat (born September 28, 1976 in Berlin ) is a short film director , screenwriter and producer . His specialty is the horror genre .

Meczulat was born in Berlin-Steglitz and grew up in the Berlin district of Rudow . He left the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium in Berlin-Neukölln after the 12th grade, because he had to do his military service in Hamburg . After this time he completed a two-year training course as a library assistant. At this point in time, Meczulat was already showing great interest in films, so that he regularly attended film and script seminars in addition to his teaching. There he met Martin Roth, who is responsible for the camera work in his films. With him, Meczulat founded the film production company Magicland Pictures .

Meczulat made his first steps as a director in the only seven-minute film "Stone Throwing Up to Eternity". This film was more of a typical amateur or student film and served as a springboard for Meczulat's further film career. The first successes came with the short films "Menage à trois" and "Blitz", both horror and psychological thrillers. “Blitz” was shown as part of a short film series on the pay-TV channel 13th Street. The film "Der Teufel von Rudow", a mix of horror and mystery , was Meczulat's first feature film. The interior shots of “Der Teufel von Rudow” took place in Meczulat's parents' house in Berlin-Rudow . The overgrown property on which parts of the filming took place and the ruins in which the “devil” was locked have meanwhile given way to a new building.

Meczulat's films are predominantly shaped by outdoor shots. The shooting takes place in Berlin and the surrounding area. The effects of violence in his films seem brutal, but deliberately avoid the appearance of reality.

Meczulat lives in Berlin-Friedrichshain and Erlangen .
