Ulrich Ruoff

Ulrich Ruoff (born April 4, 1940 in Zurich ) is a Swiss prehistorian .

Ruoff studied prehistory and early history, art history and history at the University of Zurich since 1959 and received his doctorate there in 1974 under Emil Vogt . From 1962 to 2000 he worked as a city archaeologist in Zurich. Until 2012 he was President of the Zurich Section for Swiss Homeland Security . Ruoff and his team played a key role in research into pile dwellings in the 1960s . One focus of his work was underwater archeology . Ruoff was honored with the European Prize for Archaeological Heritage.
