Life

Schaus is considered the oldest player ever to be active in the Bundesliga. He played his last game in the 2nd handball Bundesliga for TV Gelnhausen in the 2006/07 season at the age of 55. For the club, which was relegated to the regional league , Schaus was still active in the 2008/09 season at the age of 57. So he still helped out regularly when one of the two goalkeepers failed.

Acting learned to play handball at Borussia Fulda , from where he switched to TV Hüttenberg . It was there that he had his most successful period and was also called up to the national team in 1974. Schaus switched from TV Hüttenberg to TV Gelnhausen. Further stations were TuRU Düsseldorf , again TV Gelnhausen and VfL Bad Neustadt. The goalkeeper returned to TV Gelnhausen via his home club Borussia Fulda and SG Bruchköbel.

During his two international appearances, Schaus played in a team with well-known players such as the future world champions Heiner Brand , Joachim Deckarm and Kurt Klühspies . National coach was Vlado Stenzel ; it was the first two international matches under his responsibility. Despite his outstanding talent, Schaus did not make the big leap into the national team as a regular player because he said he was concentrating on his job.

Until July 31, 2012, the graduate economist was managing director of a company for tools, machines and occupational safety. Schaus is married and has two children.
