Ulrich Tambor (born September 27, 1951 ) is a former German soccer player. In various Thuringian and Saxon company sports associations (BSG) he was active in second division football in the 1970s and 1980s.

Athletic career

As a 20-year-old Ulrich Tambor rose to the second-rate GDR league in 1971 with BSG Progress Greiz . There he played 20 of the 22 league games in the 1971/72 season and was the top scorer of his team with his nine goals. However, this did not manage to stay in the league and was relegated back to the district league . Tambor played in Greiz until 1974 , but then moved to the Saxon GDR league club BSG Motor Werdau, 20 kilometers away . After he had completed another 19 league games there in the 1974/75 season and had become the second best shooter with eight goals, he returned to Thuringia after only one season, where he initially returned to the third-class district league for BSG Progress Weida in 1975/76 played. As the district league's top scorer with 26 goals, he helped BSG Motor to advance to the GDR league in his first year.

Tambor finally settled in Weida and played seven GDR league seasons there. He became the most successful goalscorer of BSG Progress in the years from 1976 to 1984, because he was top scorer in every league season with a total of 80 goals. He was also distinguished by his consistency, as he was missing only ten times in 154 GDR league games. From the 1981/82 season he held the position of team captain, which he held until his departure in 1984. His membership in the GDR league was only interrupted in the 1982/83 season, when the progress team had to compete again in the district league after being relegated in 1982. Also in this season Tambor scored the most goals for his team with 32 goals and thus contributed significantly to the immediate resurgence. Progress Weida failed again in 1983/84, and Ulrich Tambor, now 32, was unable to continue his previous achievements. In his 17 league appearances, he was only in the starting line-up eleven times, and with his four goals he was also out as a goalscorer. Nevertheless, with the four goals he was again Weidaer top scorer together with defender Frank Pohland.

After relegation, Tambor said goodbye to competitive football. After a short interlude at the Vorwärts Gera army sports community in the Gera district league , Ulrich Tambor joined the Gera district league team Traktor Niederpöllnitz, where he later also worked as a trainer.
