Ulrich W. Schaefer
Ulrich Wilhelm Schaefer (born November 30, 1938 in Breslau ; † August 18, 2002 in Essen ) was a German internist and cancer researcher in the field of stem cell transplantation .
In December 1975 Ulrich W. Schaefer carried out a bone marrow transplant in a leukemia patient for the first time . In 1977 Schaefer was awarded his habilitation . Four years later he was appointed professor of internal medicine. In 1988 Ulrich W. Schaefer was entrusted with the management of the new department for bone marrow transplants at the University Hospital Essen .
