Herman Cameron Norman

Herman Cameron Norman CB , CSI , CBE (* 1872 , † September 1955 in London ) was a British diplomat .

Life

Herman Cameron Norman was a grandson of Julia Margaret Cameron and cousin of Virginia Woolf . Herman Cameron Norman studied at Eton College and Trinity College (Cambridge) in Cambridge. He joined the foreign service in 1894. From 1896 to 1916 was in various functions in Cairo , Constantinople , Washington, DC , Saint Petersburg , Buenos Aires and Tokyo .

As envoy he took part in the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 . from May 1920 to October 1921 he was envoy to Tehran . In a telegram dated January 8, 1921, he recommended the evacuation of all European and American women and children and all those whose presence is not essential. George Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, refused to see him on his return to London. Norman was offered a mission in Santiago de Chile , which he refused. He was retired in 1921. From 1926 to 1929 he was a member of the Royal Commission on Local Government. From 1925 to 1939 he was the Camerieri d'Onore di Spada e Cappa of Pius XI. From 1939 to 1955 he was the Camerieri d'Onore di Spada e Cappa of Pius XII.
