Ulrich of Bamberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich (also: Udalrich ) von Bamberg or Udalricus Babenbergensis (*?; † probably July 7th 1127 ) was a Catholic clergyman and chronicler in Bamberg . Little is known about his life, the date of his death is derived from various necrologies in which rich donations by a clergyman of the same name to the Bamberg Cathedral and the Michelsberg Monastery are reported. It is considered likely that it was also about the chronicler Ulrich von Bamberg.

Ulrich is known for his Ars dictandi works , for which he collected, revised and codified various scriptures as textbooks of the correct correspondence style . In the Epithoma Rhetoricae he combined works by Cicero and Martianus Capella . For the instruction of students, prefaces are placed in front of the collections, in which he gives instructions for the structure and presentation of the scriptures. His Libellus graecia nobilium deals with the theory of style based on ancient writings. The Codex Udalrici , written by Gebhard von Henneberg in 1125, is considered Ulrich's main work appropriated and which contains letters and documents from around 900.
