Ulrika Fredrika Pasch (born July 10, 1735 in Stockholm ; † April 2, 1796 there ) was a Swedish painter.

Life

Ulrika Pasch was born into a well-known Swedish family of artists. Her father was the portrait painter Lorenz Pasch the Elder (1702–1766), her older brother the painter Lorenz Pasch the Younger (1733–1802). Ulrika's uncle was the court painter Johan Pasch (1706–1769).

As a child, Ulrika Pasch showed a special talent for drawing and painting. Like her brother Lorenz, she was tutored by her father. When her brother was abroad in the 1750s, she looked after her father and sister. At the same time, she was employed as a housekeeper for an uncle on her mother's side, who gave her great artistic freedom. Since 1756 she officially appeared as a professional painter. With her own portraits and paintings, she earned a substantial amount of extra income for the family in poor circumstances.

After her brother's return to Stockholm in 1766, she continued to develop her artistry and had already made a name for herself in the higher circles of Sweden. She often worked with her brother. Ulrika's artistry is in no way inferior to that of her brother. In 1773 the Royal Academy of Painters and Sculptors elected both to its members. Ulrika Pasch owes her successful career mainly to portraits of the royal family and scenes from life at court.

Ulrika Pasch is described as a modest person without artistic flair. She remained one of the few professional artists in Sweden before the beginning of the 19th century.
