Ulrike Haunschmid

Ulrike Haunschmid (born July 15, 1945 in Nesselwängle ) is a former Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and innkeeper. She was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 1986 to 2004 .

education and profession

Haunschmid attended elementary school from 1951 to 1955 and then completed secondary school from 1955 to 1959. In 1959 she moved to the Higher Federal College for Economic Professions and passed her Matura there in 1963 . In 1962, Haunschmid acquired a practice in Montreux , after which she worked from 1963 to 1965 at the Gasthof-Hotel Koreth in Innsbruck , where she was employed as a receptionist. She then moved to the Sigl brewery in the municipality of Obertrum , where she also worked as a receptionist. She then worked from 1965 to 1969 as a spa manager in Bad Hofgastein, where she was employed by the Austrian Federal Forests . She then took over her parents' business in 1970 and worked there as an innkeeper until 1980. From 1980 she ran the Landgasthof Ranklleiten in Pettenbach as an innkeeper .

Haunschmid ran Austria's first potato boarding house in Grünau for a long time and traveled all over the world as a “potato ambassador”. Most recently she wrote “The Potato Cookbook with a difference”.

Politics and functions

Ulrike Haunschmid was chairwoman of the Austrian Hospitality Federation from 1973 to 1980 and became district chairwoman of the Freedom Women in Kirchdorf. She was also active in the Freedom Party of Austria as deputy district party chairman of the FPÖ Kirchdorf an der Krems and also acted as a member of the regional party leadership of the FPÖ Upper Austria. She was also a member of the regional party leadership of the FPÖ Upper Austria and state spokeswoman for the FIT (Freedom Initiative Tourism) for Upper Austria. She represented the FPÖ Upper Austria from November 3, 1997 to October 22, 2003 in the Austrian Federal Council. From 2001 to 2003 she was chairman of the committee for economy and labor and from 1998 to 2000 she was deputy chairman of the committee for labor, health and social affairs. She also served as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Social Security and Generations from 2000 to 2003 and as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Social Security and Generations in 2003. In addition, she was deputy committee chairman in the health committee in 2003 and secretary in the EU committee from 2001 to 2003 and secretary in the EU committee in 2003.
