Ulrike Kessl (* 1962 in Rottweil ) is a German object and installation artist.

education

Kessl studied from 1981 to 1988 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . From 1986 she became a master class student with Erwin Heerich . Since 1984 she has been working at UNART (experimental form of art therapy / Essen University Hospital). In 1991 she received a scholarship at the Institut des Hautes Etudes en Artes Plastiques in Paris. In 1992 Kessl became an assistant professor at IHEAP and in 1997 artist in residence at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa (Texas) .

At the center of Ulrike Kessl's work are experimental, sculptural works that combine an examination of objects and their functionality through to the theming of physical and spatial experiences through specific interventions in the exhibition space. In doing so, she uses a carefully developed artistic language that constantly develops new materials and techniques based on the characteristics of the respective exhibition location. The works cannot be clearly assigned to any conventional genre - neither " installation ", " sculpture " or "site-specific-work". Works by Ulrike Kessl can be found among others. a. in the following public collections: Wilhelm-Lehmbruck-Museum , Duisburg , Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, Kunsthalle Bremen and Taejon Art Foundation, Daejeon ( South Korea ).

Ulrike Kessl is a member of the German Association of Artists . She lives in Düsseldorf.
