Ulrike Schüchler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrike Schüchler (* 1962 in Flensburg ) is a German multimedia artist who explores strange, unfamiliar or inhospitable conditions for her spatial and sound installations and condenses her impressions into audio-visual snapshots.

Life

Ulrike Schüchler studied fine art / graphics at the Muthesius Art College in Kiel until 1991 . After graduation, her artistic focus was on experimental video and performance . Her video productions have been shown at national and international film festivals, including a. as part of the German Video Art Prize / ZKM and at the Nordic Film Days .
The focus of her artistic work is a juxtaposition of elementary, performative body experiences and highly developed innovative technologies. In her installations she traces the stranger, plays with her own curiosity and the desire for other perspectives. She calls her approach “participative observation”, a research method that is more in the social sciences than in art. She enters into foreign territory to experience the unknown: this can be memorizing unusual movements, exploring strange places or, most recently in training for Falconer for installation Rotsehen , learning entirely new skills. The video and sound installations give multifaceted and poetic insights into their travels in the foreign beyond the familiar everyday world. They seduce, kidnap, deter, develop an expressive life of their own between the familiar and the fascination with the unknown.
Since 2008 her room installations have been presented at national and international exhibitions for contemporary art. For the installation Wasserschöpferin she received the jury award from the Ostrale in 2011 and the 2nd ORNÖ art award from Dresden in 2012 , for the installation Rotsehen she received the German Installation Art Award , category audience award 2017.

Ulrike Schüchler is married and has three children. She lives and works in Hamburg.
