Ultrasound Berlin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ultrasound Berlin is a festival for new music that has been taking place every year since 1999 in the second half of January at various venues in Berlin .

history

Ultrasound was founded as a joint event by two broadcasters - DeutschlandRadio Berlin , today Deutschlandfunk Kultur (DLF Kultur), and Sender Free Berlin , today Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb). When it started on January 30, 1999, under the direction of Rainer Pöllmann and Martin Demmler, the festival lasted two weeks and offered nine concerts with seven world premieres. In the years that followed, the offer was compressed in terms of time, but the scope was expanded; today the festival extends over five days with around 15 concerts. Three ensembles of the Rundfunk-Orchester und -Chöre gGmbH Berlin (roc) form the backbone of the festival: German Symphony Orchestra , Radio Symphony Orchestra and Radio Choir . Right from the start, it was managed by a dual team of editors from the two broadcasting corporations. Rainer Pöllmann is consistently in this management duo for today's DLF Kultur, for today's rbb followed Martin Demmler (1999-2005) Margarete Zander (until 2013) and since 2014 Andreas Göbel. An important trademark of the festival, as Rainer Pöllmann and Andreas Göbel write, is "the balance between world premieres and the lighting of works from the recent past in a changed, current context."

Venues

The festival venues include the large broadcasting hall of the rbb in the Haus des Rundfunks , Radialsystem V , Heimathafen Neukölln , but also Hebbel am Ufer , Berghain , the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin and the Pierre-Boulez-Saal .
