Environmental festival
The environmental festival is an open-air event on the subject of environmental protection in Berlin . It has taken place at the Brandenburg Gate since 1995 and is organized by the environmental protection organization Green League (Landesverband Berlin) on the occasion of World Environment Day .
concept
The event at the beginning of June has a specific motto every year . In 2011, for example, it was “Climate Protection Moves”. Possibilities for environmentally friendly mobility were shown , such as 'green hiking trails' or electric bikes . Around 200 exhibitors have taken part in the environmental festival in recent years; the date for 2016 is June 5th.
The visitors can u. a. inform about soft tourism , sustainable consumption and the possibilities of resource conservation. In addition, products from organic farming and animal welfare are offered. There is a supporting program with live music and a stage program. In order to provide space for the event, the Straße des 17. Juni will be closed to traffic as far as the Großer Stern .
The Berlin Senate describes the event as “Europe's largest ecological adventure mile”. Around 100,000 visitors took part in the past.
Others
In connection with the festival, the ADFC organizes a bicycle rally every year, usually to the big star . In 2013 , on June 2, the environmentalists cycled on 19 routes from the Berlin area via AVUS and Autobahn-Südring to the center. The Federal Environment Ministry, including the Environment Minister, took an active part in both the festival and the rally.
