Un flambeau, Jeannette, Isabelle ( A torch, Jeannette, Isabella ) is a Provencal Christmas carol from the 16th century . The song was first published in France in 1553 . The song was originally not a Christmas carol, but a dance song for the nobility.
The song tells the story of two peasant women, Jeanette and Isabella, who want to milk their cows in a stable in Bethlehem and find the baby Jesus sleeping in the hay. The two women run to Bethlehem to announce the coming of Christ to the people and the residents come running with torches to see it for themselves.
The song was translated into English as early as the 18th century ( Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabelle! ). There are numerous arrangements and recordings of the song.

Un flambeau, Jeanette, Isabelle -
Un flambeau! Courons au berceau!
C'est Jésus, bonnes gens du hameau.
Le Christ est né; Marie appeals!
Ah! Ah! Ah! Que la Mère est belle,
Ah! Ah! Ah! Que l'Enfant est beau!
Qui vient la, striking de la porte?
Qui vient la, en frappant comme ça?
Ouvrez-donc, j'ai pose sur un plat
Des bons gateaux, qu'ici j'apporte
Toc! Toc! Toc! Ouvrons-nous la porte!
Toc! Toc! Toc! Faisons grand gala!
C'est un tort, quand l'Enfant sommeille,
C'est un tort de crier go away.
Taisez-vous, l'un et l'autre, d'abord!
Au moindre bruit, Jésus s'éveille.
Chut! chut! chut! Il there à merveille,
Chut! chut! chut! Voyez comme il there!
Doucement, dans l'étable close,
Doucement, venez un moment!
Approchez! Que Jésus is charming!
Comme il est blanc! Comme il est rose!
Do! Do! Do! Que l'Enfant repose!
Do! Do! Do! Qu'il rit en dormant!
Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabelle!
Bring a torch to the stable run
Christ is born. Tell the folk of the village
Jesus is born and Mary's calling.
Ah! * Ah! beautiful is the mother!
Ah! Ah! beautiful is her child
Who is that, knocking on the door?
Who is it, knocking like that?
Open up, we've arranged on a platter
Lovely cakes that we have brought here
Knock! Knock! Knock! Open the door for us!
Knock! Knock! Knock! Let's celebrate!
It is wrong when the child is sleeping,
It is wrong to talk so loud.
Silence, now as you gather around,
Read your noise should waken Jesus.
Hush! Hush! see how he slumbers;
Hush! Hush! see how fast he sleeps!
Softly now unto the stable,
Softly for a moment come!
Look and see how charming is Jesus,
Look at him there, His cheeks are rosy!
Hush! Hush! see how the child is sleeping;
Hush! Hush! see how he smiles in dreams!
Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabella -
A torch! Let's run to the cradle!
It's Jesus, good people of the village.
Christ was born and Mary is calling!
Ah! Ah! Ah! How beautiful is the mother
Ah! Ah! Ah! How beautiful is the child!
Who comes knocking on the door?
Who comes so surprising?
Opens, I put in a bowl
Some good cakes I've brought you.
Toc! Toc! Toc! Let's open the door!
Toc! Toc! Toc! Let's have a big party!
It is wrong for the child to sleep
It is wrong to shout that loud.
Be silent, everyone, first of all!
The slightest sound wakes Jesus.
Shhh! shhh! shhh! He sleeps very well.
Shhh! shhh! shhh! See how he sleeps!
Carefully close the stall
Come in carefully for a moment!
Come closer! How beautiful Jesus is!
How white he is! How rosy!
Do! Do! Do! How the child rests!
Do! Do! Do! How it laughs in its sleep!
