The Undun ( Indonesian Danau Undun ) is a lake on the Indonesian island of Roti in the province of East Nusa Tenggara , on the Lesser Sunda Islands .

The Undun is located in the Landu Leko district ( Rote Ndao administrative district ) on the Tapuafu peninsula , which forms the north of the island of Roti. To the west is the larger Usipoka salt lake .

fauna

Only at Undun and at Lake Oendui , south of Usipoka, are the last specimens of Chelodina mccordi roteensis , a subspecies of the McCord's snake-necked turtle . Due to strong persecution, the occurrence of the subspecies is only limited to the area around the two lakes and is on the verge of extinction here too. On Roti, researchers are urgently calling for a protected area, for example on the Tapuafu peninsula with the lakes Usipoka, Undun and Oendui and the surrounding, untouched wetlands of Tanjung Pukuwatu . Since this area has a high level of biodiversity , there could be animal species that are still unknown to science.
