The União de Macau-Guangdong ( Portuguese for Macau-Guangdong Union , Chinese澳 粵 同盟) is a political party in the Macau Special Administrative Region , which belongs to the People's Republic of China . With the 2017 general election , the party was able to send two MPs to the Legislative Assembly of Macau .

history

The party ran for the first time in the 2009 parliamentary election and won a seat in the Legislative Assembly with 10,348 votes or 7.30% of the vote. Mak Soi Kun entered parliament on behalf of the party. In the 2013 parliamentary election , the União de Macau-Guangdong was able to increase its votes to 16,248, which corresponds to a share of 11.09%. The increase in votes meant that Zheng Anting, a second member of parliament, was able to move in for the party. In the 2017 parliamentary election, the party only received 17,207 votes or 9.97% of the total votes, but was able to defend both mandates and thus has two members of the legislative assembly as of today.

Alignment

One of the political goals of the União de Macau-Guangdong is above all to ensure prosperity for the citizens of Macau in order to close the gap between rich and poor. This goal should be achieved through the support of small and medium-sized enterprises . A better business environment is to be created, among other things, by reducing bureaucracy , fighting corruption and establishing a fair legal system . Support for established industries such as gambling , which Macau mainly lives on, should also lead to general prosperity. The party is also officially linked to Macau gambling. Zheng Anting is a member of the Research Association for Gaming Policy and Legislation in Macau , which advises the Macau government on issues relating to gambling in Macau. In the public sector, investments are also to be made, for example, in the health system , the transport system and in residential construction .

The party is the political representation of the Macau-Jiangmen community , which is the representation of immigrants from Jiangmen . The support of these immigrants from Jiangmen for the União de Macau-Guangdong, which in return advocates stronger networking of Macau with the province of Guangdong , is correspondingly high .

Since the party's opinion often coincides with the opinion of the Macau government, the party is clearly assigned to the pro-Beijing camp . The União de Macau-Guangdong also advocates further rapprochement between Macau and Guangdong Province and supports the gaming industry like the Macau government.

criticism

In 2013, the party and the Macau Jiangmen community were charged with indirectly buying votes through gift packages and other benefits for members of the Macau Jiangmen community . Mak Soi Kun, however, denied this allegation, emphasizing that every campaign method he has used has been based on legality .

In addition, the party is accused of running into a conflict of interest and offering too many advantages to the gaming industry , for example through Zheng Anting's participation in the research association for gaming policy and legislation in Macau .
