Unicomp is a manufacturer of computer keyboards and accessories based in Lexington , Kentucky .

description

The company was founded in April 1996 when the license and machinery for buckling-spring keyboard technology (the technology behind the IBM Model M and similar keyboards) was acquired from Lexmark .

Unicomp's product range is mainly based on the latest Model M design from IBM / Lexmark and subsequent modifications and modernizations. For example, the Unicomp Customizer 101 model is an exact copy of the IBM 42H1292, a late variant of the Model M with a fixed cable and drainage holes for dumped drinks, which is made on the original machines. Unicomp offers many keyboard layouts as user-specific modifications. As a modernization of the Model M design, keyboards with USB interface and Windows , Apple or Linux keys are also offered.

Unicomp also sells spare parts for IBM / Lexmark Model M keyboards and offers repair services for models that it manufactures itself. Almost all products are manufactured in the USA at the Lexington plant. With the exception of the Value Plus / SK-720C and SK-7500 wireless, which are manufactured by SiliTek , a subsidiary of Lite-On , in the Far East.

The Unicomp keyboards are marketed directly worldwide via an in-house web shop or by telephone.

reception

In the middle of the 2000s, some recipients spoke of a (small) comeback of the high-quality Model M keyboards in connection with the Unicomp Buckling Spring keyboards.
