The Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME) (Spanish for: Military Emergency Aid Unit) is part of the Spanish Armed Forces . Around 4,000 professional soldiers serve in it .

assignment

The aim and task of the unit is to intervene quickly and effectively throughout Spain in the event of (natural) disasters or comparable situations in which there is a danger to public safety and order. The members of the unit are specially trained for rescue operations, in particular in the medical sector, in action to fight forest fires, floods, landslides, avalanches or in the event of technical-biological-medical disasters, e.g. B. chemical accidents or epidemics. The legal basis for establishing the UME is the agreement of the Spanish Council of Ministers of October 7, 2005.
