Union 1861 Schönebeck e. V. is a multi-discipline sports club and the largest sports club in the city of Schönebeck and the Salzland district .
history
The history of Union Schönebeck goes back to the men's gymnastics club MTV 1861, which was founded on September 12, 1861. The MTV 1861 initially had 42 members (men only). In 1886 the "Freie Turnerschaft" was established as a workers gymnastics club. In 1905 a women's department was established. In 1930 a new sports field with a clubhouse was built on Magdeburger Straße (today's stadium area). In 1934 the Gymnastics and Sports Association of 1861 Bad Salzelmen (TSVg) was founded.
Until the end of the Second World War , the association was based in the Salzelmen district. After the club ban initiated by the Soviet occupying power in the post-war period and the restriction of sports competitions to the local level, several loosely organized sports associations were founded in Schönebeck in 1946, which were later converted into company sports associations (BSG). The following associations were approved by the occupying power in Schönebeck:

With effect from July 1, 2016, the Schönebecker SC 1861 and the Schönebecker SV 1861 merged to form the Union 1861 Schönebeck.
BSG Motor and Schönebecker SV 1861

The sports clubs founded after 1945 also included the SG Altstadt, which was later renamed SG Organa. After the reorganization of the sports business in the GDR by company sports associations (BSG), SG Organa was converted into BSG Motor Schönebeck. The name Motor stands for the assignment to the central sports association for mechanical engineering and vehicle construction, because the tractors and diesel engine plants in Schönebeck acted as sponsors for the BSG . The “Sports Forum of German-Soviet Friendship” was available as a sports facility and was expanded to accommodate 7,000 spectators by 1989.
In 1990 the company sports association was converted into Schönebecker SV 1861 . In addition to soccer, he also offered volleyball, swimming, orienteering, table tennis, badminton, archery, bowling and chess.
BSG Chemie and Schönebecker Sportclub 1861

In 1950 the BSG Chemie Schönebeck was founded from the SG Neustadt. The most important carrier company was the explosives factory Schönebeck, which gave its BSG the name "Chemistry Schönebeck". As early as 1955, sport was offered to the 876 members in 15 different sections. Gymnastics and table tennis were among the most successful sections.
On July 4, 1990, the BSG Chemie became the Schönebecker Sportclub eV (SSC) . In addition to soccer, he also offered volleyball, athletics, canoeing, rowing, gymnastics, tennis and table tennis. With his stadium on Magdeburger Strasse, which was renovated in 1998, he had a sports facility that can be used for football as well as athletes.

Archery
Archery is the smallest division of the sports club. The archery athletes took top places at German championships. The archery department's shooting range is located on Barbarastraße. In winter the sports hall of the vocational school center Frohse is used.
Soccer
The 1st men's team, currently. trained by Thomas Sauer, took over the relegation place of the SSC in the Landesliga Nord Sachsen-Anhalt for the 2016/17 season, the second team starts in the new season in the state class 2 due to the fact that the SSV waived promotion. Men's team in the Association League Saxony-Anhalt . After 2 years in the association league, the first men's team will be back in the Landesliga Nord from the 2019/2020 season. The second team starts in the Salzland League. The U19 plays in the association league. U17, U15 and U13 play in the national league.
canoe
On February 26, 1923, the first canoe club Schönebecks was founded, which was located in today's clubhouse of the Yachtclub Schönebecks eV.
In the early 1950s, the BSG Chemie's canoeing section achieved considerable success in canoeing. This included victories in the years 1952/53 at district and district championships and a third and fourth place in the GDR championship in 1953.
From 1954 after the formation of the Magdeburg Sports Club, many competitive athletes were withdrawn to Magdeburg. Added to this was the lack of shell boats. Therefore, popular sport was increasingly developed, with the focus on hiking trips. Later an active competitive sport developed again on the Elbe near Schönebeck. Since the 1990s, the canoeists of the Schönebecker Sportclub have won numerous titles and top placements on the regatta courses in Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Lower Saxony. The athletes were also very successful as participants in the Saxony-Anhalt state selection. At the international junior regatta in Belgium in 1999 with 17 nations, Jörg Seidler was one of the most successful participants with two first, two second and one third place.

rowing
The rowing department goes back to the Victoria Ball Game Club, founded in 1894, which later became the RC Victoria. Before the war, the boathouse was on the Grünewald side of the Elbe at the old ferry station. After the war, K. Töpfer was the first section head. He was followed by F. Lewy, K. Krieg, H. Lewy, V. Smolka, H.-D. Richter, R. Ignatius, J. Schulke and the current department head Carsten Manzke.
The first Schönebeck post-war regatta took place in September 1953. From then on, rowing continued to develop thanks to the support of the porter companies at the time. With the move into the former excursion site Buschhaus and the handover of the rifle house, which had been converted by athletes and parents, to the rowers and the simultaneous departure of the sailors, the conditions improved fundamentally. From then on, line-oriented rowing became more and more important. Numerous young people were delegated to the sports club in Magdeburg. In 1981 two new boat sheds with a workshop were built.
In 2000, a double quad and a used eight completed the SSC fleet.
The rowing department includes around 100 women, men, children and young people. Many victories and good placements in all age groups at GDR Spartakiads, championships, German championships, state championships, national competitions and at the FISA World Masters testify to the performance of the SSC rowers. The two titles in 1996 and 1998 for W. Sydlik also join this track record. The often victorious rower Gabi Wölfer received the SSC badge of honor in gold at the end of 1999.
In February 2018, the new replacement building for the club house, which had been badly damaged after the flood in 2013, was handed over after a year of construction.

The chess department trains for competitions at district, state and federal level. In addition, working groups in several schools in the city of Schönebeck are supervised by holders of the German school chess patent and senior chess events are held.

The swimming department was founded in 1910 as the Elbe Swimming Club. After the Second World War, swimming was continued in MTV and the BSG "Motor" Schönebeck. About 200 children, young people, the young at heart and master swimmers are members. Within the swimming department there are two divisions: water polo and swimming. Training takes place in the Schönebeck indoor swimming pool and in the Schönebeck outdoor pool.
