The United States Penitentiary, Atlanta is a US federal prison in Atlanta , the capital of the state of Georgia . It has the medium security level.

history

Construction was decided in 1899 and completed in January 1902. It accommodates an average of 1200 prisoners. Cuban refugees were interned there in the 1980s . These rebelled for eleven days in November 1987 after being left in the dark about their fate.

The main building was designed by architects Eames and Young from St. Louis , Missouri designed.
