* NSYNC (often spelled 'N SYNC , NSYNC or N'Sync ) was an American boy band .

Band history

Justin Timberlake and Joshua Scott Chasez (JC) , who already knew each other from their time together as presenters at the Mickey Mouse Club of the Disney Channel in Orlando , formed a band with Chris Kirkpatrick in 1994. Next up was Joey Fatone, whom Kirkpatrick knew from a Disney production . The fifth member was initially Jason Galasso, who soon left. The now missing bass was found shortly afterwards in the form of Lance Bass . To what extent the band found itself or whether it was rather put together is controversial.

Timberlake's mother contributed the name of the band. NSYNC - English in sync for "synchronous", "in harmony" - not only stands for the unity in song and dance, but also combines the last letters of the five first or nicknames: Justi n , Chri s , Joe y , Jaso n and J C . When Jason was replaced by Bass, the band nicknamed him Lansten to keep explaining the N. The star in the name is said to have originated from a suggestion by Uri Geller .

In 1995 the band recorded a demo CD that they sent to record companies. In 1996 the material came to the producer Johnny Wright, who had already helped the Backstreet Boys to fame in collaboration with Lou Pearlman . After long discussions, * NSYNC signed the contract. The band flew to Stockholm to record the first single I Want You Back with producers Denniz PoP and Max Martin . Shortly before their European breakthrough, * NSYNC were on tour with DJ BoBo as a support act in autumn 1996 . The single I Want You Back had great success in Europe. This was followed by the return to the USA , but there they were treated like stepbrothers of the Backstreet Boys , which were initially much more popular . The first single was therefore not the desired success. It wasn't until Disney broadcast a concert by the band that * NSYNC became chart breakers in their homeland as well. To take full advantage of their sudden success, the band recorded a Christmas CD in 1995 and 1998. In 1999 they made a musical appearance on the television series Sabrina - Totally Verhext! .

Before recording their third studio album No Strings Attached , the band members decided to switch their record label RCA and management to Lou Pearlman, as they felt that neither the management nor the record company had done anything for the band lately. In addition, it was about the financial income and its, according to * NSYNC, unfair distribution in favor of the counterparties. The situation escalated just before the new millennium and resulted in a $ 150 million lawsuit against * NSYNC. With the support of their old producer Johnny Wright, they had now switched to the Jive Records label and its management, Johnny Wright Entertainment , where the band had to fear for their name, as it was owned by the RCA record company. This problem was solved by changing the spelling of the band name. Then the band released their third album in 2000, which set new sales records within a very short time. Only two years later, the fourth studio album, Celebrity , followed , which contained a few hit singles, but could not build on the success of its predecessor.

After the troubles about the management change, two successful tours and the promotion of the last album, * NSYNC decided to take a creative break . Bass is now the owner of his own label and promotes up-and-coming bands. Chasez worked as a solo artist and guest musician and released a solo album in 2004, Schizophrenic , which is commercially mediocre . Timberlake celebrated great worldwide success as a solo artist and has released three studio albums that have been selling very well since 2002 : Justified , Future Sex / Love Sounds and The 20/20 Experience .

In the spring of 2002, the band decided to finally break up, despite continued success.

At the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25, 2013, * NSYNC performed together with a medley .

Nick Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys, produced the trash movie Dead 7 in 2015 . Various band members from * NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys can be seen in the film.

On April 30, 2018, they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .

Trivia
