Universal Congress Of is assigned to the style of punk jazz . Guitarist Joe Baiza was on friendly terms with bands like Black Flag , Hüsker Dü , Mike Watt or the Minutemen , or appeared as a guest musician. Baiza was also known as a role model in the hardcore , noise or grunge environment . For example, Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth formulated Universal Congress Of as his musical influences. Even John Zorn punk jazz-influenced music project Naked City goes back to baiza. The history of the Universal Congress Of band is unsteady.
