The Chungnam University ( English : Chungnam National University , short: CNU ) is a state university in South Korea . The main campus is located in Gung-dong (west of KAIST ), Yuseong-gu, Daejeon .
The name Chungnam ( 충남 ) is the short form of Chungcheongnam-do ( 충 청 남 도 ).
history
The university was founded in May 1952 as a provincial university (with three colleges (faculties): Liberal Arts , Agricultural Sciences and Engineering). In March 1962, it was merged with Chungbuk University to form Chungcheong State University . In March 1963, however, it was divided again into two state universities.
In 1978, today's Daedeok campus opened, and colleges moved to the campus over the years. In 1984 the new University Hospital was built on the Bowun campus, and the next year the medical college also moved to Bowun.
