The Francisco Marroquín University ( span .: Universidad Francisco Marroquín ; Engl .: Francisco Marroquín University ) is a private university based in Guatemala City , Guatemala .
history
The university was founded in 1971 by the entrepreneur Manuel Ayau. It emerged from the economic research institute Centro de Estudios Economico-Sociales . The university is named after the first bishop of Guatemala, Francisco Marroquín , who made an outstanding contribution to popular education in Guatemala in the 16th century and laid the foundations for the state Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala . The Universidad Francisco Marroquín is now considered the most prestigious university in Guatemala. The admission requirements and tuition fees are very high.

There are also a number of separate institutes . Lectures , exercises and seminars are held in Spanish and English.
The university has approximately 3,000 full-time students. The IDEA distance learning program is used by around 15,000 students. The principal is Gabriel Calzada.
