Óscar Andrés Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga SDB (born December 29, 1942 in Tegucigalpa , Honduras ) is Archbishop of Tegucigalpa , Honduras. From 2007 to 2015 he was President of Caritas Internationalis .

Life

After finishing school, Óscar Rodríguez Maradiaga joined the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco on May 3, 1961 and then studied Catholic theology , piano and composition , physics , mathematics , chemistry , philosophy and psychology in Tegucigalpa, Rome and Innsbruck .

He was at the Institute "Don Rua" in El Salvador as a doctor of philosophy at the Pontifical Salesian University for doctor of theology and at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome a doctorate in moral theology doctorate . He then obtained a diploma in clinical psychology and psychotherapy at the Clinic for Psychiatry at the University of Innsbruck . On July 28, 1970, he received the sacrament of ordination through Archbishop Girolamo Prigione in Guatemala City and was called to be assistant bishop in the same year. From 1975 he was rector of the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala for three years . He then worked as a teacher of chemistry, physics and music at various schools of his order in El Salvador , Honduras and Guatemala. Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga is a member of the board of trustees of Don Bosco Mondo eV , an international non-governmental organization based in Bonn.
