The Erzbistum Tegucigalpa ( latin Archidioecesis Tegucigalpensis ) is in Honduras preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Tegucigalpa .
history
Already in 1527 founded the Medici - Pope . Clement VII the diocese of Honduras, presumably as a suffragan of the Spanish archdiocese Sevilla .
The Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa was founded in 1561 as the Diocese of Comayagua out of the Diocese of Guatemala by Pope Leo X , also from the Medici family; Metropolitan bishopric was the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo .
In 1916, the vicariate of San Pedro Sula and the diocese of Santa Rosa de Copán were founded by assignments of territory . Pope Benedict XV declared on February 2, 1916 the diocese Comayagua to today's Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa. The first archbishop was Santiago María Martinez y Cabanas. This was followed by the establishment of the Inmaculada Concepción de la BVM en Olancho prelature (1949), the Comayagua diocese (1963), the Choluteca prelature (1964) and the Yoro diocese (2005). On January 2, 2017, territorial shares were again outsourced to establish the Diocese of Danlí .
