history

The diocese of La Ceiba was on December 30, 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI. Erected from territory ceded by the Diocese of San Pedro Sula and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa as a suffragan . The first bishop was Michael Lenihan, OFM .

The diocese of La Ceiba comprises the departments of Atlántida and Islas de la Bahía .
