The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Pedro Sula ( lat. : Dioecesis de Sancto Petro Sula ) is an in Honduras situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in San Pedro Sula .

history

The diocese of San Pedro Sula was founded on February 2, 1916 by Pope Benedict XV. from the cession of territory by the Comayagua diocese as the Apostolic Vicariate of San Pedro Sula . The Apostolic Vicariate of San Pedro Sula was founded on July 6, 1963 by Pope Paul VI. raised to the diocese. On July 3, 1987, the diocese of San Pedro Sula gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Trujillo . The diocese of San Pedro Sula gave up on December 30, 2011 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of La Ceiba .

The diocese of San Pedro Sula is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa as a suffragan .
