The University of Eswatini , or UNESWA for short , until 2018 University of Swaziland , UNISWA , is the central state higher education institution of the Kingdom of Swaziland (Eswatini).

history

The University of Swaziland (UNISWA) was founded in 1982. Their institutional base consisted of an older higher education institution. In 1964 the University of Basutoland, Bechuanaland Protectorate and Swaziland was established in Roma , which was renamed the University of Botswana , Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS) in 1966 . In 1975 the association disbanded. The National University of Lesotho gained its independence in this process, Swaziland and Botswana together formed the University of Botswana and Swaziland . In 1982 this association was also dissolved, so that UNISWA and the University of Botswana were re-established.

In 1966 the Swaziland Agricultural College and University Center was established in Luyengo . Today it is part of UNESWA. In 1996, Mbabane became another location for a faculty . In 2018 the university was renamed the University of Eswatini as part of the state renaming .

Structure of the university

The University of Eswatini is concentrated in Kwaluseni, which lies between the capital Mbabane and the industrial center of Manzini . The Faculty of Agriculture is located in Luyengo and the Faculty of Health Sciences in Mbabane . The distance between the campus locations is a maximum of 40 kilometers. The university primarily offers bachelor's degrees. Only in agricultural sciences, chemistry, education and history are there master’s degrees.

Chancellor is always the King of Swaziland, currently Mswati III. Of the 298 academic staff, 202 are Swazi .
