University of Hawaii at Hilo

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is a state university in Hilo in the US state of Hawaii . With 3,457 students it is a small part of the University of Hawaii System .

history

The university was founded in 1941 as the Hawaiʻi Vocational College (Hawaiʻi College) . It has existed in its current form since 1970. Until the 1990s the college was run together with the Hawai'i Community College. Today they are managed as two separate units.

Sports

The University of Hawaii sports teams are the Vulcans . The college is a member of the Pacific West Conference .
