Unmerciful is an American brutal death metal band from Topeka , Kansas , which was founded in 2001, split up in 2002 and came back together in 2005.

history

The band was founded in June 2001 by drummer James King and guitarist Clint Appelhanz (original Origin bassist). Together they developed the first songs and recorded them. Then more members came to the band, but no permanent line-up came about, so the band briefly disbanded in 2002. Appelhanz joined Origin as a guitarist, replacing Jeremy Turner. James King followed him a short time later and played as a drummer in the band. In early 2005, Jeremy Turner, who has toured with Cannibal Corpse since leaving Origin, formed the new line-up of Unmerciful with King and Appelhanz and singer Tony Reust. In the summer the band recorded their debut album Unmercifully Beaten . Appelhanz, Turner and King played the bass on this album. Alex Webster was the session bassist for the song Shotgun Sodomy . Bassist Derek Engemann only joined the band later as a permanent member. The band sent demos to various labels and thereby achieved a contract with Unique Leader Records . On August 22, 2006, Unmercifully Beaten was released. A tour with Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus and Necrophagist followed in November and December .
