Unna artist circle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Unnaer Künstlerkreis (UKK) was founded in 1948 after an art exhibition was held for the first time after the Second World War in 1947 in the back room of the “Sozietät” restaurant in Unna . The then head of the cultural office in Unna had encouraged and brought the artists together.

background

The weekly meetings in Unna Castle , today's Hellweg Museum in Unna, served to draw together. The artists themselves acted as models or hired homeless people from the homeless shelter for a small fee. In the early years, exhibitions were limited to the Unna district, and the group's works were regularly presented in the town hall. Through work on the festive events and other public contracts from the city and district of Unna, as well as in 1964 through the increase in the budget for art purchases in the district, there was strong mutual influence between art and politics.
