The Our Heimatbäcker GmbH is a German bakery, which under the brand Purple baker and owned branches in northeastern Germany, primarily in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg , operates.

history

Volker Schülke founded the company in the 1990s. In addition to organic growth, there was also the takeover of competitors, including the takeover of De Mäkelbörger Backwaren GmbH in 2014 . In 2010 there was a merger with the Dahlewitzer Landbäckerei ( Dahlback ). From 2014 to 2018, Deutsche Beteiligungs AG played a major role in the company.

The company filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of 2019, but was able to terminate the insolvency proceedings in autumn 2019 (including a guarantee from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the amount of EUR 8 million).

Locations

At the end of 2018, the company had production sites in Dahlewitz, Neubrandenburg and Pasewalk as well as logistics centers in Pasewalk, Dahlewitz, Neubrandenburg, Gägelow, Stralsund and Niederlehme. According to the company, "several hundred bakery branches" were in operation at this time.

criticism

In 2018, the DGB criticized the company for its wage model, in which a premium would be paid after a long period without sick leave. This would put the chronically ill and parents with sick children at a disadvantage. In addition, the wage model could lead to employees with contagious diseases not necessarily staying at home, but going to work despite being sick, which would contradict the Infection Protection Act.
