Unterhaid is a part of the municipality of Oberhaid in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg .

geography

Unterhaid lies at an altitude of 230 meters, making it the lowest place in the Bamberg district. Neighboring towns are Oberhaid in the east, Viereth in the south and Staffelbach in the west . The A 70 runs just under a kilometer south of the village .

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 953 and in 1289 was called "inferiori heyde". In 1314 the village was called "Nidernheyde". Ecclesiastically belonged Unterhaid to the secularization of Roman Catholic Diocese of Würzburg . Unterhaid is the easternmost town in the Franconian wine-growing region and one of the few wine towns in Upper Franconia.

Until April 30, 1978 Unterhaid was an independent political municipality.
