Staffelbach is part of the municipality of Oberhaid in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg with a good 800 inhabitants.

history

The Staffelbach (Stafelebach), located in the Main Valley directly on the Main and in the Haßberge Nature Park , was first mentioned in 953. The word probably comes from a stone footbridge (Stapfel or Staffel) over the Mühlbach, where the village of Staffelbach originated. Staffelbach was devastated and sacked during the Margrave War. After the Thirty Years War , 1686 to 1700, Oberhaid and Staffelbach were looked after by the same pastor. The basement of today's church in Staffelbach has been preserved from the Middle Ages. As a result of the secularization, Staffelbach came to the diocese of Bamberg. Staffelbach was an independent municipality for a long time and in the course of the municipal area reform, after several failed negotiations on mergers with other localities, an incorporation into Oberhaid, which came into force on May 1, 1978, was approved at the beginning of 1978. In the 1970s and 1980s, as part of the rationalization of the Federal Railroad, the Staffelbach station on the Bamberg – Würzburg railway line was closed and replaced by a bus stop. In addition, the village school was closed. Today Staffelbach is the westernmost and second largest town in the municipality of Oberhaid with around 850 inhabitants .
