As Unterholzner Castle is the ruin of the former villa of brick , owner August Unterholzner in iron Felden , community Winhöring in Altötting district in Bavaria called. The Unterholznerburg is often confused with the nearby, but still preserved castle keep with the castle chapel .

location

The building was erected on the so-called "Kaiserberg" in Eisenfelden (Reischach). The " Burgstall Kaiserberg" with the mighty moats of the outer and main castle stood on this mountain in 1797 .

history

The Burgstall probably goes back to a fortress in the early 10th century . A medieval use as a castle cannot be proven, although Philipp Apian described ruins on the Keysersberg around 1554 .

In 1897, the Neuötting brick manufacturer August Unterholzner had the Munich architect Julius Beeckmann (including design and detailed processing of large state buildings: Archive in Bamberg, built 1902–1905 with Eduard von Reuter in the style of the so-called Bamberg Baroque, University Eye Clinic in Munich, design Cremation hall Bremen, 1902 and old building of the Gymnasium Münchberg in Upper Franconia, 1910) build a romantic castle on the Kaiserberg, which has been in ruins since the fire on December 19, 1969. The castle has been purchased since October 2007 and is being renovated.

investment

The villa at that time was a bare brick building with a large castle tower in the Gothic style; it was surrounded by about 2.40 meters high castle walls , which were covered with battlements and bordered by four round towers.

The stone building with the interior is relatively well preserved and is located in the middle of the Eisenfeld Forest. In recent years the castle has deteriorated more and more and it is no longer advisable to enter it. The room layout is hardly comprehensible anymore, and the upper floors have been completely destroyed. Most of the ruins are inaccessible, as are the numerous basement rooms below the castle, which are buried.
