Unterwildenstein Castle is a high medieval castle ruin of free aristocracy north of the community of Leibertingen in the Baden-Württemberg district of Sigmaringen in Germany .
It is one of four castles that were built long before Wildenstein Castle .
Geographical location
The ruins of the rock castle are located northeast of the Altwildenstein ruins, not far from the so-called "Knight's Path" on an isolated rock ridge at an altitude of 730 m above sea level. NHN in the valley slope. The rock has a channel in the southwest and drops steeply to the northeast side.
history
The Unterwildenstein, presumably from the 12th century , cannot be clearly identified as a separate complex or as belonging to the Altwildenstein Castle above, as there are no documents. Only remnants of the wall point to the ruin lying on a rock rib, which has the special feature of a cave that extends about ten meters into the castle rock.

Remnants of the wall on the valley side of the rock have been preserved from the Unterwildenstein. A rock channel in front of the Burgplatz was walled up.
